Contrive 'real' for consumer attention

Meltdowns on TV are such fun to watch. Because for once we get to see the real person and not the carefully contrived image. As people we desperately seek the 'real' in a world where we are constantly subject to pretenses.

Marketeers are viewed as 'pretense' creators. Marketing Communiques that 'seem real' at times work in arresting consumer attention. Guess why 'reality' shows work? But then push it too long and viewer interest sags, as in the case of the hit American Idol show.
